Tavria, Tauriania, also Crimea - the historical name of the Crimean peninsula, derived from the name of the Tauri. Strabo divided all Tavria into large and small. The modern Kerch Peninsula is called Little Chersonesus. Tavria is known in mythology in connection with the myth of Iphigenia. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Tavria was the name of the Tavria province, created in 1802. It included the territory of the modern Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the southern parts of the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions. This name lasted until 1918.
